Chip Antenna Design Assistance, Tuning, and Characterization Services

Optimize your RF performance with Johanson Technology's expert chip antenna design assistance, tuning, and characterization services. Our specialized team helps design engineers achieve precise antenna performance by offering comprehensive support from design to production.

Step 1: Pre-Fabrication PCB Review
We offer two complimentary RF layout reviews by a Johanson Technology (JTI) engineer before PCB fabrication to ensure optimal radiated performance. Our team will provide:

  • Antenna footprint suggestions
  • Antenna selection and placement
  • Grounding recommendations

For radiation pattern characterization, we use state-of-the-art anechoic chambers based on measured data from your PCB.

If necessary, we can establish an NDA for detailed technical communication.

Step 2: Post-Manufacturing Testing and Tuning
Once your prototype is ready, send us a fully populated PCB with all SMDs, including connectors and enclosures, installed. The antenna and matching components can be left unsoldered—we’ll handle those.

We will:

  • Test and optimize the SMD antenna on your PCB
  • Tune it for proper resonance using Johanson Hi-Q inductors and capacitors
  • Measure radiated performance in our anechoic chamber and provide a 3D radiation plot

You’ll receive the updated matching circuit schematic, part numbers, measured radiation data, and efficiency and gain figures. If needed, we can make adjustments to your board in our lab.

When shipping, please provide:

  • 3 complete modules (including cases, screws, and batteries)
  • Target center frequency, bandwidth, and expected return loss (if applicable)
  • R274X Gerbers or layout files
  • Schematic of the RF front end
  • Step file or 3D print of the entire module
  • Antenna part number used
  • Module placement: on a structure or human body? If on a body, specify limb(s) and displacement distance.
  • Manufacturing location of the module
  • Hardware tracking information

Modules should be fully assembled but not functional.

Please include any additional cable assemblies or harnesses, as they may impact antenna performance.
